I just played through all of Franken. And honestly, it's such a fun, whimsical, and comedic adventure with neat characters (my favorite character is 3 btw).
The sprite art is really adorable and the comedy is funny.
I thought I would really enjoy this game cause I like the idea of humorous rpgs. However as the game went on the brand of humor became very stale for me. I know its subjective but a lot of the jokes were kind of lame and felt like they had been recycled from other games. The ending in particular was very hard to sit through.
However, if not for the ending, I would have said that it's a good game overall, because there are a few glimpses of brilliance throughout. Particularly when satirizing the tropes of the rpg genre, all of those jokes landed and were genuinely hilarious. But the jokes about the characters acting quirky and breaking the 4th wall were not funny and have already been done to death in games like Undertale.
Hilarious and so good. I found it through Dunkey’s video and it did not disappoint. I was excited to learn the game dev is female, as a lady myself (30F). Please make some more! I will pay money :)
edit: I highly recommend playing before watching Dunkey’s review for ultimate hilarity.
This might be not only the best game on Itch.io -- but the best game the world has ever seen. The game the world needed but didn't deserve. Legit had a blast with this, a hilarious game that never takes itself seriously. Lots of Undertale vibes with less depression.
For anyone who is trying to stream the game with obs, I recommend using display capture over game capture. On game capture, the game will be choppy and slow for some odd reason.
This is a bug in the OHRRPGCE engine when a Mac package is exported from a Windows computer. Here is a workaround you can try. Open the Terminal app, and use the cd command to switch to the folder where the "franken" app is located. Then run this command: "chmod +x franken.app/Contents/MacOS/ohrrpgce-game" I hope that helps! (And I hope I can fix the bug in a future version of the OHRRPGCE!)
A homage to Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, the game, or as I would put it, art, FRANKEN reinvents Shelley's anti-industrialist and feminist literature with a story of heartwarming redemption and nonbinary love. As well as this, FRANKEN impliments exciting AAA quality combat and immersive environments which leave a lasting impression on the player. It really makes you feel like Franken.
Hey, he said "title screen' so maybe he was confused. But I was stuck too, the prompt for entering the name never popped up. The game window was just my character in the black void. For me however relaunching fixed it. thought I should let ya know
It's great to see more people using ohrrpgce. I could tell it was from the dialogue box, it has that distinctive look to it. Maybe one day I'll complete the silly little rpg I was making on it...
So even though it was a parody, this actually gave me feelings at the ending because I was enjoying myself and was sad it was going to be over. I was pretty happy most of the time playing this, from the jokes to the wandering around wondering what surprises would be there - because the surprises here, unlike in even the AAA games, actually were entertaining and creative - to enjoying the visual art design and music choices. The minimal battle/level design was well done, still managing to give you a sense of tension and excitement due to the high production/entertainment values. I also enjoy that it was short, polished and fully realized. So many indie game creators want to make the next Final Fantasy 16 and make some hot garbage instead. I would much rather play a 30 minute pixel art game that I enjoyed every moment of than a 60 hour WANNABE open world game that is devoid of anything fun or truly interesting. In my experience with people it's always the ones who are self-aware that are the most intelligent and entertaining, and I think you have this quality of self-awareness which really shows in your work. I came across this from Dunkey's video as did everyone else, probably, but I'd be interested to see what you came up with in the future. One of the most magical moments I had in this shitty year.
A couple other people said something similar. Did you try enter/space/ctrl to advance? If that doesn't work, try pressing F12 (maybe Fn-F12 on a laptop), which should show a message about saving a screenshot, meaning the game is reading keyboard input fine. Does that work?

High quality shitpost. Those battle sprites are honestly pretty damn awesome looking!
Very fun game. Reminded me a lot of Dragon Warrior. Great work!

Made another video for the finale
added a .txt file that lists all the music used in the game!

It's a super short and simple game that makes for a fun filled hour anyone could just have.

I'm stuck on the title screen and nothing else appears. Tried downloading multiple times into different folders and still the same issue
are you pressing any buttons? once the title screen appears you need to press spacebar or enter

The engine used to make the game?
it's made in OHRRPGCE!
Thank you so much, keep up the great work, hoping i can make similar games one day

Brilliant! Killer selection for the soundtrack, too. Thanks a lot.
what game engine is this?
OHRPGCE, an rpgmaker-esque engine.
Thank You
The art is goddam radical for some of the characters! Great job!!
Also, very solid jokes and visual comedy. This is an excellent project all around aside from the battle system itself.
happy game
My game isn't working. need help
What system did you download for? Im not the OP but I use this engine so I may can help.
What game engine is this btw?
It's called the OHRRPGCE (Official Hamster Republic Role Playing Game Creation Engine) Come check us out on discord or something!
That is a brilliant name for a game engine.
Windows. For some reason, the game just freezes at the title screen

This was super fun. Thanks!
is it possible to get the soundtrack somewhere? i need it
there is a playlist of all music on YouTube
